More than 80% of patients with ulcerative colitis (UC), including those receiving treatment, experience bowel urgency. This symptom dramatically impacts patient quality of life (QoL) and can lead to depression, social isolation, disruption with work, interference with relationships, and fatigue. Bowel urgency has not been widely incorporated into clinical assessment indices or clinical trial endpoints for UC, despite being a pivotal symptom influencing patient health-related QoL and a potential indicator of uncontrolled intestinal inflammation. To change practice, clinicians must implement patient-centered strategies for discussing symptoms of bowel urgency and devising clinical treatment plans that utilize current and new therapies while being knowledgeable about endpoints used in clinical trials and updated guideline-based definitions of clinical remission.
In this CME Outfitters recorded webcast, leading clinical experts will help prepare learners to discuss, assess, and address bowel urgency in patients with UC, and will provide insight into the effects of new and emerging therapies.
