Livestream: Initiating Basal Insulin: Moving from Hesitancy to Action

Statement of Need

More than 32 million adults in the United States currently have diabetes, 90% of whom have type 2 diabetes (T2D) which can lead to both microvascular and macrovascular complications, and greatly compromise health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and confer significant morbidity and early mortality. Basal insulin plays a vital role in the management of T2D as a means of reducing blood glucose to prevent or slow disease progression. The development of next-generation insulins with once-weekly dosing schedules and digital technologies that simplify complex treatment algorithms have the potential to greatly improve basal insulin initiation and adherence. However, HCPs need additional education in order to integrate these new therapies and technologies into clinical practice, particularly when treating underserved populations who may have challenges in accessing newer treatment approaches.

In this CME Outfitters live chapter meeting, expert faculty will discuss important strategies for identifying how to best overcome delays in insulin initiation as well as how to differentiate current and emerging basal insulin therapies and their impact on therapeutic inertia.
