Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a condition with high seroprevalence in the U.S. population and remains a primary concern in solid organ transplants, particularly allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCTs) and kidney transplants. Pharmacists are an integral part of the team-based care of patients following these transplants and are positioned to improve patient outcomes; however, they are not consistently included in patient care. To better contribute to CMV management strategies, pharmacists must understand the prevalence and impact of CMV in this patient population for early surveillance and patient assistance programs in hospital settings and must differentiate traditional and novel approaches to prophylaxis.
In this CME Outfitters Snack activity, expert faculty will discuss clinical experience, current and late-breaking study information, and how to integrate data into everyday clinical workflows to improve management of patients receiving HSCTs or kidney transplants.
