Dr. Bogan received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wofford College and his MD degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He served his internship and residency, as well as Chief Medical Resident, at the University of Alabama Hospital and Clinics in Birmingham. Thereafter, he completed a fellowship and assistant professorship in the Pulmonary Division of the Department of Medicine at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He has a variety of publications and research interests that focus on topics such as narcolepsy, insomnia, sleep apnea, shift work sleep disorder, restless legs syndrome/periodic limb movement disorder, chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia, and circadian rhythm abnormality.

Carol Dawson-Rose, RN, PhD, FAAN, is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Community Health Systems at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), School of Nursing. Dr. Dawson-Rose has over 35 years of combined HIV clinical and community-engaged research, primarily focusing on implementing substance use services into programs that support engagement in the HIV care continuum and decreasing substance use stigma. She is the Program Director for the UCSF Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) Substance Use Research Program and a member of the AIDS Research Institute. Dr. Dawson-Rose is co-director of the Next Generation Nurse Scientists Ending the HIV Epidemic, designed to train a diverse cadre of nurse scientists with the research skills needed to lead efforts to end the HIV epidemic. Funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research, this program will build on almost 30 years of cutting-edge HIV research and training in the School of Nursing.

Michael Fingerhood, MD, is a Professor of Medicine and Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, and Chief of the Division of Addiction Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Fingerhood earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University and his Medical Degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed internal medicine training and a chief resident year at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The mission of his career has been to promote and improve the provision of medical care to patients with substance use disorder, including the treatment of HIV and hepatitis C, with the development, maintenance and evaluation of innovative programs related to the care of these individuals. Dr. Fingerhood created the Comprehensive Care Practice in 1994, a Ryan White funded primary care practice largely devoted to providing care to individuals with substance use disorder. The practice has been innovative in integrating buprenorphine treatment into the primary care setting for over 650 individuals. He has also co-created novel buprenorphine treatment programs at a community center, at a church and in a mobile van outside the Baltimore detention center. Dr. Fingerhood has received the Health Equity Leadership award from the Baltimore City Health Department and is co-author of the American Society of Addition Medicine (ASAM) Handbook of Addiction Medicine. He was chair of the ASAM Annual Conference Planning Committee from 2014-2020, and currently chairs the ASAM State of the Art Conference and the ASAM Medical Education Council. He has co-authored over 70 research papers and has received NIH research funding continuously over the past 30 years.

Judy Levison, MD, MPH, is a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. Dr. Levison completed her MD degree from Tufts University in Boston, her residency in Ob/Gyn at the University of Washington, and her Master in Public Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health in 2010.

From 2002 to 2022, Dr. Levison led the Harris Health System Women’s Program, which provides obstetric and gynecologic care for women living with HIV in Houston, Texas.  She is active in educating Texas health care workers about the management of HIV. Dr. Levison is on the national Perinatal Guidelines Panel and provides consultation for the national Perinatal Hotline. Her work in the area of HIV has led her to consult on projects in Swaziland, Namibia, Ukraine, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nepal, and Malawi. Her group is the first in the United States to develop a curriculum for group prenatal care for women living with HIV and to follow the outcomes of this program.

Rana Chakraborty, MD, DPhil, is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Chakraborty is a pediatric infectious disease specialist, with sub-specialty interest in immunology and HIV.

Rana Chakraborty, MD, DPhil, is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Chakraborty is a pediatric infectious disease specialist, with sub-specialty interest in immunology and HIV. He has served as Chairperson for the Committee on Pediatric AIDS at the American Academy of Pediatrics, and serves on three Department of Health and Human Services Committees on HIV management.

Dr. Chakraborty’s clinical focus includes expertise in management of HIV in children and adolescents, and perinatal infections; coordination of care and management of infectious diseases in patients with underlying complex conditions including bone and solid organ transplantation and newborn prematurity; promoting understanding of infectious disease conditions, empowering patients to become partners in managing their health, particularly adolescents and young adults; and promoting the importance of immunization of vaccine-preventable conditions on a local, state-wide, and nationwide scale.

In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Chakraborty is active in research and education. His National Institute of Health (NIH)-funded lab investigates placental immunology in the context of HIV, Cytomegalovirus and Zika Virus. He provides mentorship to graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, residents, clinical fellows, and junior faculty. He has over a 150-peer reviewed publications, many in high-impact scientific journals.

Farah Hasan received a BSc in Biology and Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She is currently pursuing an MSc in the Health Science Education Graduate Program at McMaster, and she is a Graduate Scholar and Fellow of the McMaster Education Research, Innovation and Theory (MERIT) Program. Her research explores the efficacy of a virtual reality application for teaching anatomy.

Farah sits on the Expert Advisory Board for Project Sleep as a patient advocate. She is also a trained speaker with the Rising Voices program and engages diverse audiences and communities through advocacy presentations and talks, sharing her experience as a person living with idiopathic hypersomnia.

Dr. R. Robert Auger is a consultant in Mayo Clinic’s Center for Sleep Medicine with wide-ranging interests in the field, particularly with respect to circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders and disorders of hypersomnolence.

Dr. R. Robert Auger is a consultant in Mayo Clinic’s Center for Sleep Medicine with wide-ranging interests in the field, particularly with respect to circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders and disorders of hypersomnolence.  He is one of only several sleep medicine physicians who interfaces with the adolescent population. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School, Dr. Auger completed internship and residency at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Following his Sleep Medicine Fellowship at Mayo Clinic, he then joined the staff with a joint appointment in Sleep Medicine and Psychiatry & Psychology.

Dr. Auger has served as Chair of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s (AASM) Circadian Rhythm Membership Section, the Circadian Rhythm Sleep Disorders Practice Parameters Update Task Force, and of the Circadian Rhythm Sleep-Wake Disorders Work Group for revision of the International Classification of Sleep Disorders. He has also participated in AASM Hypersomnia Practice Guideline Task Forces. He recently edited the book “Circadian Rhythm Sleep-Wake Disorders: An Evidence-Based Guide for Clinicians and Investigators.”

Dr. Thorpy is a Professor of Neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Director of the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center in the Department of Neurology at Montefiore Medical Center, both in New York.

Dr. Thorpy is a Professor of Neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Director of the Sleep-Wake Disorders Center in the Department of Neurology at Montefiore Medical Center, both in New York. In addition to treating patients with sleep disorders, he conducts research in narcolepsy, insomnia, and sleep apnea. He is President of the New York State Society of Sleep Medicine, Past President of the Sleep Section of the Academy of Neurology, and Past Secretary of the National Sleep Foundation. In 1993 Dr. Thorpy received the Nathaniel Kleitman Award from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, one of the field’s highest honors, and in 2012 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Sleep Foundation.

Born in New Zealand, Dr. Thorpy earned his medical degree from the University of Otago Medical School. After receiving postgraduate training in Dunedin, New Zealand; Bombay, India; and London, England, he completed his residency in neurology at the State University of New York in Syracuse and a neuroendocrinology fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Thorpy is board certified in sleep medicine.

He has published extensively on narcolepsy, insomnia, and sleep disorders. He chaired the first International Classification of Sleep Disorders and has published more than 250 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, including publications in journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine. His numerous books include The Encyclopedia of Sleep and Sleep Disorders, Parasomnias (2010), Sleepiness (2011), Neuroimaging of Sleep and Sleep Disorders (2012), Genetics of Sleep and Sleep Disorders (2013), Narcolepsy: a Clinical Guide (2016), and SleepMultiMedia, The Computerized Textbook of Sleep Medicine (v12).0 (2023).

Dr. Thorpy has given more than 100 television, radio, and print interviews on sleep disorders.
