Dr. Richard Furie, Chief of the Division of Rheumatology at Northwell Health, is a rheumatologist whose activities for the last several decades have focused on patient care, physician education, and clinical research in the area of anti-rheumatic drug development. He directs The Program in Novel Therapeutics, the Health System’s clinical research program in musculoskeletal disease. He also directs the Hospital?s SLE and Autoimmune Disease Treatment Center, which has become internationally recognized for its role in the development of new therapies for SLE. Regarded as one of the senior rheumatologists in the New York metropolitan area, Dr. Furie has served as a volunteer for the local chapters of the Arthritis Foundation and the Lupus Alliance, the Lupus Foundation of America, the SLE Foundation, the Lupus Research Alliance, and Lupus Therapeutics. For 20 years he served on many committees of the American College of Rheumatology and was named a Master of the College in 2018. Although often featured as a speaker at national and international conferences, Dr. Furie’s favorite educational venue is at home with his colleagues and trainees.
Allan Gibofsky, MD, JD, MACR, FACP, FCLM, serves as Professor of Medicine in the Department of Healthcare Policy and Research at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr Gibofsky is an attending physician and rheumatologist at the Hospital for Special Surgery, where he is Co- Director of the Clinic for Inflammatory Arthritis. He received his undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, his medical degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University, and his law degree from Fordham University School of Law. He did his internship in pathology, followed by a residency in medicine at New York Hospital. He completed a fellowship in rheumatology/immunology jointly at Hospital for Special Surgery and at The Rockefeller University. Dr Gibofsky has authored or co-authored numerous papers and textbook chapters, primarily on rheumatic diseases and legal aspects of medical practice. He is known for his work on mechanisms of host-microbe interactions in rheumatology, and, in particular, for his basic and clinical studies on rheumatic fever.
Currently Secretary-Treasurer of The New York Rheumatism Association, Dr Gibofsky is past Chair of the Medical & Scientific Committee of the New York Chapter of The Arthritis Foundation and is a recipient of its Physicians’ Leadership Award. He also served as a member of the local and national Arthritis Foundation Board of Trustees and was Chair for Professional Education. Dr Gibofsky has participated in numerous professional and public education programs, nationally and internationally. He served as President of The American College of Rheumatology and was recently named a Master. Dr Gibofsky is a Jonas Salk Scholar of the City University and an Alumnus of the Year of Brooklyn College. He is past President of the American College of Legal Medicine and is past Chair of the American Board of Legal Medicine. Dr Gibofsky is past Chair of the Arthritis Advisory Committee of the Food and Drug Administration and continues as a special consultant to that committee.

Dr. Neil Skolnik, MD, is an academic family physician who sees patients and teaches residents and medical students in the family medicine residency program at Abington Jefferson Health in Abington, Pennsylvania. He is a Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and Associate Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at Abington Jefferson Health. Dr. Skolnik graduated from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, and completed his residency training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Skolnik has written and edited 5 books: On the Ledge: A Doctor’s Stories From the Inner City; Essential Practice Guidelines for Primary Care; Essential Infectious Disease Topics for Primary Care; Sexually Transmitted Diseases for Primary Care; and Electronic Medical Records: A Practical Guide for Primary Care. He served as series editor for fifteen years, overseeing the development of over twenty-five titles in the Humana Press Current Clinical Practice in Primary Care series of medical textbooks, and has published more than 300 articles, columns, poems, and essays in both the medical and lay literature on a diverse range of subjects including laboratory diagnosis, disease management, guideline-based medical care, handheld technology in medicine, electronic health records, and medical humanities. He serves on the Expert Panel Report 4 (EPR-4) Working Group, National Asthma Education and Prevention Program Coordinating Committee, National Heart Lung Blood Institute (NHLBI), and is on the Primary Care Advisory Committee for the American Diabetes Association. Dr. Skolnik lectures nationally on a range of topics, with a special interest in diabetes, asthma, COPD, exercise in medicine, and coronary disease risk factor management. He produces “Diabetes Core Update,” the American Diabetes Association’s monthly podcast, reviewing the most important new articles to come out in core journals for practicing clinicians, and hosts the Infectious Diseases Society of America’s Guideline Podcast series.

Dr. Clarke is a Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Penn State Hershey College of Medicine. He previously served as Division Chief of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, PA.
He completed fellowship training in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center; postgraduate training in Medicine and Gastroenterology with certification by the Royal College of Physicians of London; as well as Research Fellowship at Michigan State University. In addition, Dr. Clarke holds Certificates for Leadership Development for Physicians in Academic Health Centers from the Harvard School of Public Health and Excellence in Academic Medicine Program from the Penn State Leadership Academy.
His clinical and research interests are in luminal bowel disease, primarily inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with a secondary interest in celiac disease. He also has an interest in graduate medical education.
He has published several peer-reviewed manuscripts, multiple abstracts, a book chapter, and is the site Principal Investigator of several multicenter clinical trials at Penn State Health Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He has also been an invited speaker at several meetings on IBD and is a reviewer for several gastroenterology and medicine journals.
Dr. Clarke is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and American College of Physicians as well as a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London.
Miguel Regueiro earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania, his medical degree at Drexel (Hahnemann) University and completed his internal medicine internship, residency, and clinical and research fellowship training in gastroenterology at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Hospital.
Dr. Regueiro was Professor of Medicine and Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine from 2000 to 2018. There he served as the IBD Clinical Medical Director, Senior Medical Lead of Specialty Medical Homes, was Professor with Tenure, and honored as the UPMC Endowed Chair for Patient Centered Care in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.
Dr. Regueiro is currently the Chair of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Chair of the Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He serves as Medical Co- Chair of Digestive Disease and Surgical Institute Research Governance committee and is Professor of Medicine at the Lerner College of Medicine, Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Regueiro’s main clinical and research interest is Inflammatory Bowel Diseases with a focus on the natural course of these diseases and postoperative prevention of Crohn’s disease. Recently, he has been involved in transformative medicine initiatives and developing new models of healthcare, including the first-of-its kind specialty medical home for IBD. Dr. Regueiro is investigating alternative models of care in population-based health that integrates patients, payers, providers, pharmaceutical industry, and other facets of healthcare delivery around these novel programs.

Dr. April Armstrong is Associate Dean at Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC). She also serves as Director of Clinical Research Support at the Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). Dr. Armstrong also serves as Vice Chair and Director of Psoriasis Program in the dermatology department at USC. Dr. Armstrong obtained her MD and completed dermatology residency at Harvard. She also obtained a MPH in Clinical Effectiveness from Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Armstrong is highly committed to clinical research and the care of patients with inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Her research focuses on (1) investigating comorbidities related to psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, (2) identifying treatment patterns, treatment goals, and economic burden of inflammatory skin disease, and (3) increasing patient access using innovative, technology-enabled healthcare delivery methods. She has conducted over 100 clinical trials and published over 210 articles in scientific journals. She holds multiple leadership positions at professional societies, including the National Psoriasis Foundation, Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA), the International Psoriasis Council, and the American Academy of Dermatology. She is an associate Editor for JAMA Dermatology and has also served on the editorial boards of JAAD and Telemedicine and eHealth.

He is the author of over 450 articles, book chapters, reviews, and commentaries in this area, with publications in the Annals of Internal Medicine, Archives of Surgery, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, American Journal of Physiology, and New England Journal of Medicine, among other professional publications.
Dr. Kowdley has extensive experience in clinical trials in all areas of liver disease, including hepatitis C, cholestatic liver disease, primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, and hepatitis B. He has been a principal investigator in several NIDDK-sponsored clinical trials in PBC and PSC and is a member of executive committee of the nonalcoholic steatohepatitis clinical research network (NASH CRN). Dr. Kowdley has also served as the lead investigator of several major international clinical trials in hepatitis C.
Dr. Kowdley’s laboratory program is focused on the role of iron as a co-factor in many liver diseases, including hepatitis C, hemochromatosis, and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). He has developed murine models for NASH and is currently exploring the contribution of hepatic iron deposition on the severity of NASH.
Dr. Kowdley’s research program has been continuously funded by the NIDDK since 1999 in addition to several grants from foundations and scientific societies.
Dr. Kwo is currently Professor of Medicine and Director of Hepatology at Stanford University where he joined the faculty in November 2016. Prior to joining the faculty at Stanford, he was at Indiana University for 21 years where he served as the Medical Director of Liver Transplantation. He received his MD from Wayne State University School of Medicine, his Internal Medicine training at University of Maryland, and his Gastroenterology/Hepatology training at Mayo Clinic Rochester. He is an Associate Editor for Clinical and Molecular Hepatology and serves on the editorial boards of multiple journals including Hepatology, Hepatology Communications, and Clinical and Molecular Hepatology. His service to the ACG has included membership of the Education Committee and International Relations Committee, and Chair of the Membership Committee.
In addition, Dr. Kwo is a co-director of the ACG Hepatology Circle, as well as the ACG Hepatology School and serves on the ACG Board of Trustees. Along with other ACG members, he recently authored the ACG Practice Guideline Evaluation of Abnormal Liver Chemistries. He has distinguished himself in the field of chronic Hepatitis C and has served as the principal investigator for multiple seminal trials in the treatment of hepatitis C that have been published in journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Journal of Hepatology and others. He has won multiple awards for his clinical care and teaching, and he believes in the importance of mentoring college students, medical students, residents, fellows and faculty in clinical research.

Su Wang, MD, MPH, FACP is the Medical Director of Viral Hepatitis Programs and the Center for Asian Health at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and a member of the RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group. She is Past President of the World Hepatitis Alliance, a non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to viral hepatitis elimination.
Dr. Wang is an internist and has served as primary investigator for a number of viral hepatitis screening and linkage-to-care grants sponsored by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other funders. She has led primary care-based hepatitis B and C programs, community outreach efforts, patient-based advocacy, and community-based research initiatives.
Dr. Wang has served on a number of World Health Organization (WHO) guideline development committees producing “Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of Hepatitis B Virus: Guidelines on Antiviral Prophylaxis in Pregnancy” and “Interim Guidance for Country Validation of Viral Hepatitis Elimination.” She is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and serves on the steering committee for the HBV Special Interest Group and the Viral Hepatitis Elimination Taskforce, and is on the Patient Advisory Group.
She received her medical degree from the University of Miami and her Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Dr. Wang completed a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric residency at Georgetown University Hospital and then served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer for the CDC at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). She was previously the Director of Hepatitis Programs at the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center in New York City.
