There is an urgent need to address healthcare access and disparities in underserved communities across the United States by providing education and sharing best practices.
Most clinicians believe that health care disparities are related more to the systems of care than their own decisions on when and how to provide that care. Understanding and eliminating individual and systemic barriers and social drivers of health are paramount to improving patient care. As a CME/CE provider, CME Outfitters has a responsibility to tackle this issue and be a guiding force for health care professionals (HCPs) around the globe.
This hub serves as a framework for addressing not only the barriers to health care access, medications, and follow-up but also the stigma and social drivers that impede care for underserved patients. The educational activities and resources in this hub are designed to shed light on these matters, help HCPs recognize these issues, and empower them with tools to use in their clinical practice.

The focus will be on understanding upstream, midstream, and downstream drivers of health inequities, such as socioeconomic status, immigration status, and lack of social support. Learners will gain actionable strategies, including utilizing case managers, interpreter services, culturally aligned dieticians, and community support workers to address social drivers of health. These strategies aim to improve diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes for underserved populations, fostering equitable gastrointestinal care delivery.
Despite advances in the treatment and management of dermatologic conditions such as psoriasis, significant disparities in both treatment and outcomes persist for patients from racial/ethnic underserved groups. Patients of color are not only more likely to present with more severe disease, but they are also more likely to receive either no treatment, or only topical treatments, despite wide availability of effective biologic medications. In fact, Black patients with moderate to severe psoriasis are 70% less likely to receive biologic treatment than their White counterparts. It is imperative that each member of the multidisciplinary care team works together to address these disparities in order to improve equity in treatment and outcomes for all patients.
In this CMEO BriefCase, expert faculty will utilize case-based learning to illustrate these pervasive disparities through the stories of two patients, Miguel and LaToya, while offering strategies to integrate therapies that optimize long-term outcomes and address racial/ethnic inequities in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with psoriasis.
Though the overall prevalence of major depressive disorder (MDD) is estimated to be largely equivalent across racial/ethnic groups, there is a significant disparity in the rate of diagnosis of MDD for many racial/ethnic underserved communities, including Black and Hispanic groups. In addition, amongst those from these communities who do receive a diagnosis, treatment offerings are often limited, with antidepressant therapy as well as psychotherapy offered at lower rates as compared to their non-Hispanic White counterparts. Social determinants / drivers of health play an additional role in these disparate outcomes, as negative drivers of health have been associated with progression to treatment resistant depression (TRD). It is imperative that each member of the multidisciplinary care team works together to address these disparities in order to improve equity in treatment and outcomes for all patients.
In this CMEO BriefCase, expert faculty will utilize case-based learning to illustrate these pervasive disparities through the stories of two patients, Luna and Eralia, while offering strategies to address inequities in the treatment and outcomes of patients with MDD and/or TRD.

As a result, preexisting racial/ethnic disparities in the diagnosis of cardiovascular conditions are only exacerbated by differential treatment, resulting in greater disparities in patient outcomes. It is imperative that each member of the multidisciplinary care team works together to address these disparities in order to improve equity in treatment and outcomes for all patients.

This CMEO BriefCase entitled, People Living with HIV (PLWH) and Substance Abuse Disorder (SUD): Addressing Barriers to Viral Suppression, will discuss a specific case of an individual who must simultaneously face the challenges of living with HIV as well as having a SUD. Expert faculty will address mental health screening and different ART treatment options for HIV given the difficulties and unique barriers faced by patients with a comorbid condition of SUD.
